The Personality Cult of Nikola Gruevski Grows in FYROM (Video)

According to leaked photographs promoted today (01-June) to the public, the leader of the ruling far-right VMRO-DPMNE political party, Nikola Gruevski, ordered a great number of monumental paintings that promote his personality cult. The paintings, products of Ukrainian and Bulgarian authors, are made distinctly in artistic style that has qualities of 1930's Third Reich and Soviet Stalinist political propagandist visual art.

The artists depicted Gruevski as the central figure, surrounded by his long-time party loyalists and official of the politically isolated central Balkan state, as well by images of "happy members of the nation", which carry country's, party's as well as flag with Sun of Vergina upon it. Nikola Gruevski, once called by the state TV "MRT" as "eternal shepherd and immortal leader of his people" and who was a subject of at least one neo-folk song that promoted his "divine birth" is known for his persistent self-promotion through mass-media. This is especially true for television media, which are solely monopolized by VMRO-DPMNE because of legal loophole that makes donation for party propaganda through TV advertising to be made not only from party's but from the very state budget.

These grandiose paintings promoting Nikola Gruevski, the appearance of which has no parallel in modern European politics, are planned to decorate the headquarter of his party in central part of city Skopje, which itself is a neoclassical building compared by local and foreign art theoreticians as aesthetically close to Italian fascist architecture of 1920's.
